Via Abano 1 (Abanotubani - Tbilisi - Georgia)

TBILISI ABANOTUBANI BATHS SULFUR WATER

My dear friends, as my personal experience certainly all the baths in Tbilisi are not the best for services and cleaning but surely the sulfur water shower is something really fantastic to be tryed and to not miss in your life experience....you will feel your skin like a velvet, really relaxed and clean as never you have been...

I advice to not get in the public shower area just to save money but choose for a private room.
Service and cleaning situation do not change a lot from a bath to another one...just the look in the Royal Bath is better and you pay for the look 50-60 gel  for 1 hour...more cheap is the Bano (Bath) n.5, they have private rooms for 15 gel per hour but too many peaple go there because it is the first bath you meet on the district....

If you want my advice, i tell you where I was just yesterday enjoyng with my wife a fantastic hour of shower and care for my skin.
Walk In Abanotubani street for 150 meter than turn in the bridge on the left and take the street Ioseph Grishasvili St, go up for 100 meter and arriving  before the number 11 ( do not get wrong because at 11 there is another bath, really popular as bano...to not get wrong, see this link
http://goo.gl/maps/VZn2f  )
get inside this road without exit , walk 50 meters and in the end there is a nice ancient bath (at the right you see a grill steak house), usually with few people, 20 private rooms, 25mq each shared with a entrance lounge to change and a bath lounge with 2 sulfur shower, so if you are in 2 , you and your wife or your friend, you can enjoy without waiting one for the the other to have shower.
Price for the room is only 15 gel. I extremely raccomend you to bring your personal bath shoes, your personal towel, one to dry yourself and one to put on the marble if you want to sit down and to enjoy the room like a sauna (leaving the shower open). If you have a small hairdryer take it with you, outside the room there are sofa, mirror and eletric plugs. Enjoy your bath!

Just 2 days in Tbilisi Georgia - the itinerary to save time and to enjoy the best !

My dear friends, this is the itinerary I use to do and i just did last week with a group of friends from Italy stayng only 2 days. As you know the most of flights arrive in the early morning, so the thing to do is to go to relax a couple of hours and than to follow my instruction "tested on my skin":

- arriving in Tbilisi international airport: there is a new shuttle service to Tbilisi Center and make some stops for just 8 euro per person. anyway If you are just a couple or anyway 2 person, take a taxi but before to go up fix the price at no more than 30 gel (less than 15 euro)...change in the airport a small sum because in the city you will find a lot of change office at better rate.

- arrived to your hotel sleep!

- the start of my advice trip is from the Europe square in the heart of Tbilisi downtown near by Metecki there is the Tbilisi cable car. So walk or take a taxi from your hotel ( set 3-5 gel before to get on board) ang go there! At the entrance of the cable car station,  you should do a sort of tranport credit car ( it costs 2 gel and you will be refund if you will give back before your departure) . The amazing one way trip from the Europe square to NariKala Fortress cost 1 gel per person and you have  the fantastic view of all Tbilisi as soon as you start your day!

Arrived on top of the hill, turn on right, walk to the Mother of Georgia Statue and get sick for the thousand pictures you will wish to get from that amazing point!
Mother Georgia Statue
Than I suggest to not go down in the Botanic garden but to go back the Cable Car station and to follow the sweet narrow way to the Narikala Fortress...

lanscape of Metecki from Narikala

Enter the Main door and go up the th Narikala Wall, visit the recently restored Church of Saint Nicholas, enjoy the amazing landscape of Tbilisi from another point of view!

Back of Narikala view

Going down from the fortress, as soon as you pass the Main Door, turn on right and follow the narrow way that will bring you to the Abanotubani Baths passing the cute street of Botanikuri
Botanikuri Street
As soon as you are down Botanikuri Street turn 360 grades on the right and you will see the Bath Roofs in Abano Street
Proceed straight on the right till you arrive to the ancient public Main Bath, today closed for restauration

Pass on left the bridge and if you want try the sulfur shower you need just to get in in one of the two private baths placed there or you continue after the bridge on right for a nice walk till the cascade
Walk to the cascade on back Abanotubani
Going back till down the Botanikuri Street you can choose on right to eat delicious georgian cuisine in Maspindzelo Restaurant ( I will talk later about) or on left to continue your walk taking Samghebro Street. all this side has been recently renovated and you can enjoy the tipical georgian architecture. after 350 meters on the left you will see the beautiful Armenan Church of St george (St Kevorc) but unfortunally is in restoration and you cannot get in.
St Kevorc (george) Armenian Church (up Narikala castle)
Left the church on your back and proceed on the right footway of Leselidze street. Walk for other 3oo meter and passing trough the Sinagoga built from 1895 to 1903, than you arrive to the Church of Jvari Mama. Take your time for the visit. In reality there are 2 churches but you can visit only the small one, the bigger as you will see is broken in 2 sides from an heartquake and never restorated because there is a dispute between Georgian and Armenian Ortodox Churches.
Jvari Mama Church

Going out the church yard, across the road and pass trough the square (forget Google map, it is not properly done for Tbilisi and you cannot see this square in your ipod) you arrive front of the Konka station pub ( prices like in Europe) proceed on left and you arrive to the wonderful Sioni Cathedral Church!

Than going out from Church turn on right and than the first on left to be again in Leselidze street, proceed with a light uphill till the end and you arrive in the famous Freedom Square with the column of Saint George in the middle. Now stay on the right and wald down to the district of Kalaubani, passing trought the ruin of the ancient wall of the city and arriving to Baratashvili street with the nice Georgian colurfull balconies.
Baratashvili street
Pass front of the Wedding house...
Tbilisi Wedding house
and after 300 meters, turn on right in Ioane Shavteli Street where you will see the pictoresque marionette Theatre
Gabriadze Theater (Marionette)
keep continue for few meters and you find on left down the church of Anchiskati 400 a.C.
After the visit of the church, keep continuing the Ioane Shavteli Street , passing the patriarchate and continuing straight ahed till Erekle Str, where on left you find the new Bridge Peace. Go walking and take pictures!!!
Peace Bridge
Accross the bridge and visit the Rike park, at today in devenlopment adn it will be certainly something where future and past will join togheter! Going to the right side you will see the cable car station from where this trip is started and if you do it properly already 3 hours and more are passed.  Than proceed to the left side od the square and take the second road on the left to go up to the church of Metecki with the  Vaktang Gorgasale statue.
Metecki Church

Than if you are not tired, you can go up Metecki rise and the Avlabari District and arrive to Sameba Trinity Church.

But i advice to finish in Metecki your walk and to go down, in Europe square, to across the Metecki bridge, turn on left direction to Abanotubani and  go to enjoy the georgian cusine in Maspindzelo Restaurant , 7 Gorgasali St., Tel. +99532303030

Maspindzelo Restaurant

There you can enjoy Kinkali, Katchapuri Imeruli, really nice chiken or beef souvlaki, nice salads, very nice drauft beer (Zedazeni) at really cheap price, really good value for money (around 20 euro for 2 person)...

This is already almost a full day, than in the night to repet this itinerary is fantastic as well because Tbilisi by night is completely another amazing city......

The day after i advice to spend all day to Jvari Monastery and Mtshketa ancient city, but you need to rent a car (really not adviced, really dangerous in Tbilisi) or to buy an excursion or to come with my car (price to be agreed)
Mtskheta
tomorrow will follow the Jvari + Mtshketa program. Keep in touch!
